Day

Students will be teamed in groups of
three.
Each group will be assigned a biome or ecosystem that can be found on the
north shore. Once the groups have been
assigned a biome, each student will take on one of the roles
below. |
| Ecologist |
Responsible for describing the biome,
understanding the predator - prey relationships that exist, as well as
construction of a food web |
| Biologist |
Responsible for a complete understanding of the
plant and animal life in the biome, and the traits that allow them to be
successful in that biome. |
| Sociologist |
Responsible for understanding the ways in which
man is affecting the biome in a positive of negative way. (i.e.
preservation or destruction) Also, the sociology is responsible for knowing where the biome exists
on the earth, and the climate. |
 |
Once the teams roles
have been assigned, each member of the team will begin researching their
specific aspect of the biome. |
 | Each Biome review the list of web sites from which
information can be obtained for the presentation (See Resource Section).
Along with the resources given, each group must find 6 more resources that
relate to their specific biome.
 |
This must contain a COMBINATION of websites,
encyclopedias, books, journals, and magazines. |
|
 | Each of the resources that the group uses as a
resource must
be reviewed for accuracy, effectiveness and user
friendliness. Each group must also keep
complete bibliographical information for each resource used. |
 |
All materials that are
collected by the group MUST be placed within the teams research
journal. Once materials have been placed into the research journal,
they cannot be removed. The Journal must be kept in the classroom at
all times |
Day 2
 |
Using the research journal, each member of the group
will complete the worksheet that belongs to his or her role. When
completed, the worksheets will be placed into the research journal.
Click on your role to go to your questions. |

Day 3
 |
In class,
each student in the group will work on creating Haikus/Songs that
will describe their biome. The Haikus will use the following template.
 |
Once
the Haiku/Song has been written, the team will make a PowerPoint slide
with the Haiku/Song on it. |
 |
Each
person will find a picture of the biome that will be used as a
background for their PowerPoint Slide. |
|
 |
For homework, teams
will create an outline of each slide of the presentation. Each student in
the group will outline the slides that effect their role most
directly. The outline will be passed into the teacher, who will check
it and place it into the research journal. |
Day 4
 |
Students will brainstorm and write their
review sheet. This review sheet will be used by their classmates to
take notes with during the presentation. For homework, a final typed draft will be
prepared, and then
placed into the research journal.
|
Day 5
 |
In the computer lab, the groups will use their
presentation outline to prepare their PowerPoint presentations. If the
group does not finish, the presentation will be finish as homework.
